Diet foods

I'm currently on a diet but finding it really hard to do it OS. I'm ok with main meals but I always need something sweet afterwards, this is where i find it hard to be OS. Things like Alpen light bars which are very low in fat are
£1.50+ for 6. Does anyone have any ideas for things i could make myself that are low in fat and calories?

    -custard again with some fruit

-rice pudding made with uht skimmed milk and a sweetener rather than sugar-can even be made in slow cooker

-fresh fruit with yoghurt poured over

-microwave steamed pudding-never made this myself but im sure someone could tell you the recipe and could be adapted to low fat/sugar

handful of sultanas/raisins....a meringue (no cream)......a yoghurt......as a desperate chocoholic a 2 finger kitkat only 120 calories. I wouldn't bother buying anything lowfat/diet they are full of hideous sweetners just eat a small portion of something you'd like... you'll feel happier and won't feel tempted to stuff a crunchie on the quiet !!!!

When not pregnant ( as I am now!) I am permanently doing WW or maintaining. One tip I have is to wait a while after a meal and have the "pudding" a bit later so you can sort of space it out as a snack and hopefully stop you snacking as well.

    My OS puddingy things are:
    - fresh fruit salad with/without yoghurt - I use a tub of 0% greek yoghurt, cheaper and nicer than individual pots
    - stewed fruit with lf icecream or yoghurt
    - fresh fruit or tinned fruit on a meringue nest
    - chocolate cripsie cakes - as long as you don't use too much chosloate in them
    - apple stuffed with raisins and baked
    - baked bananas - add a little lemon or rum or something and bake in foil
    - fruit smoothie with skimmed milk

When dieting I almost never bake as everything has flour/fat/sy=ugar and these all contribute to weight gain, plus I can never stop at one and end up eating everything I make! I find it easier to have puddings that are very fruit based. The above things are far more filling as you can eat a massive portion for the same calorie value, plus its much healthier.

I am dieting a bit too and the above suggestions are really useful, thanks all.

I like meringue nests with v low fat yoghurt and strawberries on top with a sprinkle of cinnamon. You can freeze the unfilled meringues so you don't eat them all in one go too!

    Hi
one low cal dessert I like very much is frozen fruit, e.g. strawberries or blueberries, whisked together in a blender with a little yogurt and sweetener. It comes out like a sorbet. If you don't want to add yogurt, just add a few tablespoons of water to make it smooth. You can cube any fruit you like and keep in a bag in the freezer for this purpose.

Muller light yoghurts are really nice and very low fat. I've been told that if you add a sachet of options drinking sachet into the vanilla one, it is really nice - not tried it myself so cannot guarantee this.

Good luck with the diet. BTW I've been directed to the 'I wanna' forum as there's a Slimming World thread - you might get some ideas from there. Again, I've not been there yet but it may be helpful.

I don't confess to having a hugely sweet tooth (thank goodness - I would be the size of a house!) but I have a couple of sweet tasters I do:

I chop up a honeydew or other small melon into small teaspoon sized pieces and then mix with a few blueberries (can be expensive - hence just adding a few, but they are really good for boosting the metabolism). Keep in the fridge and then put into small portions in containers and then taken them into work as dessert.

I also take mixed HM fruit salad - made of anything on special in the supermarket that week.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

Not OS or home made but cheap and sweet:

Jaffa Cakes (40 cals each and about 4p each)
Value Choc ices, most Supermarket brands (under 100 cals and about 10p each)
    fruit
    jelly

also try Rosemary Conley cookbooks for low fat cake recipies (may be able to get them from the library)

How about trying ww no count plan, as this is based on 3 good meals a day and only snacking on friut and veg, this should cut down on buying expensive lowfat treats and snacks.

Also meals can be based around pasta, rice etc as long as you eat until full not stuffed.
