A Big Glass Jar & Two Beers.......
When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the big glass jar and the 2 beers.
A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him.
When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large but empty glass jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.
He then asked the students if the jar was full.
They agreed that it was.
The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly.
The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls.
He then asked the students again if the jar was full.
They agreed it was.
The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.
Of course, the sand filled up everything else.
He asked once more if the jar was full.
The students responded with a unanimous 'yes.'
The professor then produced two Beers from under the table and
poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand.
The students laughed.
'Now,' said the professor as the laughter subsided, 'I want you to
recognize that this jar represents your life.
The golf balls are the important things ---- your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions --- and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.
The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your
house and your car.
The sand is everything else---the small stuff.
'If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued, 'there is
no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.
The same goes for life.
If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will
never have room for the things that are important to you.
Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.
Spend time with your children.
Spend time with your parents.
Visit with grandparents.
Take your spouse out to dinner.
Play another 18.
There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.
Take care of the golf balls first ---- the things that really matter.
Set your priorities.
The rest is just sand.
One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the Beer
represented.
The professor smiled and said, 'I'm glad you asked.'
The Beer just shows you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for one or two beers with a friend.
Thankyou needed that wee reminder today. Just one of the days when I am sweating the small stuff instead of enjoying the big stuff :T:T:T0 -
Nannylala I went with my friend to her first chemo in Northampton this time last year I really had no idea what to expect.
I may not get it in the right order we had to get there very early the waiting room was like a very large open carpeted area with armchairs a small teabar & coincedently puzzles cant remember the last time I did one or a place in a hospital clean enough to want to touch it. The place was spotless.
Eventually we were called into a smaller room with loads of recliner chairs coffee tables & a large screen T.V. it was very nice & although I wasn't the patient it all seemed very quiet & calm. People gradually arrived & chose their chairs & the patients had assigned nurses to keep an eye on them.
First she had I think it was an anthistamine drip it could have been antisickness which would make more sense but I dont think it was. People were reading books, chatting with their friends/relatives taking their drips to the toilet, eating packed lunches etc.
The second drip was the chemo which varied from person to person depending on the type of cancer they had. Most had been many times before only one lady had no hair I didnt spot any obvious wigs which surprised me.
The only real nasty moment was when one of the people had a blood test to see if they had recovered from the last session enough to have the chemo that day which they hadnt so had to go home & come back another day.
The effects didn't kick in for a few days we were both equally tired when we got back so she went straight to bed & ate normally the next day but did have a very dry mouth.
I'll be thinking of you both on Monday0 -

You're welcomeWe can't half talk eh?!
It's good sunflower
The APG has been reading that you've paid 3 for 2 bottles rather than the £2 you actually paid.
Therefore for every 2 bottles you buy when comparing to T's, you get £1.40 back. So 2 bottles = 60p :j:j:j
Just waiting to see if someone's had their results back in the last hour before I pop down :A
Mine isn't - its coming up as £1 on the Asda receipt.ELITE 5:2
