A slow cooker question

I have borrowed my mum's slow cooker, she doesn't use it anymore (hasn't actually been used for about 9 years or something since I was in high school! but it's had a good wash out!) and I wanted to try it out. The thing is that I set off for work at 7am and don't get back until 5pm. The slow cooker has two settings, low or high and I know I'd use the low but if I was making a stew or something would it be ok in the slow cooker for that long or would it end up drying out and burning?

As long as there is enough gravy, it will be fine.
Things tend not to 'dry out' in a slow cooker because there is no evaporation.
Enjoy - it will revolutionise your life!

thanks
the bf was very suspicious of me bringing more "junk" into the house but I'm hoping that the stews will win him over, he's a big stew fan!
I just didn't want to set the house on fire!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T
