crap at interviews

I know what i want to say and do research, but when i sit there the things i think they ask they dont and i waffle (not good)
Also what is a good thing to say about you best and worst points, i never know what they want to hear.

the most ridiculous question i was asked once was on a scale of 1 -10 how much would you like this job... and another one was, how would your friends describe you????
At this stage i feel like telling them to not be so stupid and ask me a sensible question about my skills and what i can bring to the job.

All these questions are pretty standard I think . In repsonse to not knowing what they want to hear, I suspect the answer to that is "the truth"

My mum always says shes crap at interviews and she doenst know what to say, I said to her last week " try the truth" and she was so shocked she didnt know how to respond to me!!! I said well maybe thas why you never get the job mother if you are trying to bull your way through it instead of telling the truth! they probably see you as a bulls**ter who cant answer questions at an interview honestly, why would I want to emply someone who blusters :)
Also what is a good thing to say about you best and worst points, i never know what they want to hear.

    Tell the truth!

One thing which is true about me, is if Im not kept busy, or im underworked I lose momentum and get distracted. I like my managers to be clear with me about what I can do if my main work dries up - eg can i help colleagues out, help elsewhere in the firm etc
the most ridiculous question i was asked once was on a scale of 1 -10 how much would you like this job...

I think if anyone said 10/10 Id love it, I wouldt believe them, but Id respond suchlike:
"some bits Id like more than others, eg Id like dealing with customers, but wouldnt be too chuffed about filing, but its part of the job and without it the company wouldnt function" or
"we all have parts of any job we dont adore, but generally they are outweighed bythe parts we do enjoy, I think Id enjoy the customer contact the most as in my last job I really enjoyed that the most"
how would your friends describe you????

    well how would they?
My mates describe me as funny and amusing. QWould I say this in interview? Probably not, but I might say that theyd think I am open, freindly and approachable. My mates might say Im a bit hectic, I like to be busy, or that Im reliable. really this question is to find out about how you see yourself and self confience ;)
At this stage i feel like telling them to not be so stupid and ask me a sensible question about my skills and what i can bring to the job.

Dont let your frustration with the process put you in a mood :D jst remember these questions are for them getting to know YOU, not just your skills, they can see those from the application form or cv ;)

HTH & good luck with the job hunting.

Practice beforehand ... get someone to ASK you those questions, and practice saying your answers out loud. It really does make a difference! yes, you feel like an idiot, and get the giggles, but it does help!

There is also http://www.alec.co.uk/ to help you.

I've been asked a similar question, we have technical people on different skill levels, how do you think your skills rate on 1-10 (10 being the best), I said somewhere in between, about 5 or 6, as there is always room for improvement and learning new skills, and nobody knows everything. Well, I got the job and since found out that was the answer they were looking for. You can go a long way if you're professional, but come across as being happy and easy to get on with as the majority of companies are assessing how well you would get on with the team. Also avoid direct questions about the salary and benefits as you can always find out when you receive the offer! As a previous poster has said, having practice with a family member is a good way to cut out the waffle and stick to the facts. Finally, if you don't get a job from an interview, just take it down as experience and try to learn from it. It can take a while before you can find a good fit to a job, but your perfect job might just be around the corner!

    Good luck!

You can work out the answers to the standard questions like:

1 Why do you want to work here?
2 what skills can you bring to the job?

Well in advance of going to the interview.
