I am so pleased with myself, finally i can come off esa for good.
I've just received a call from a company i had an with interview yesterday.
pending pres employment screening.
I am worried but maybe over nothing.
after a few years on esa because of a disability, this year i started the process of getting back to work.
I started with permitted to work and have a very small casual job working in a school, still employed, and not 100% sure of giving this job up as it should not clash with my new job. But i could still make myself ill if i do over do it.
I am worried that when my new employers contact my old employers ..
I left due to ill health, (fact is there was no understanding of disabled staff, lack of awarness and training, my manager issued me with a capability form that clearly stated not to give to a disabled member of staff, she really didn't have a clue)
what is the worse that my old employer can say in a reference, husband thinks that they can only say yes she worked for us.
I never did anything bad there, i did take a lot of time off sick and then made the decision to leave as i thought it was for the best as i couldn't give them what they wanted (me acutally working there)
interview yesterday asked what happened, and i never give a bad review of previous employers, i said that my disability at the time was undiagnosed but felt so ill i thought best to leave due to sickness, but had decided to take time out from work to learn to cope with my disability, and that i had started the return to work with my part time school job, and that i felt i was ready now to rejoin the workforce.
the interviewer was satisfied with my answer.
so should i be worried about the reference?

I was in the same position Ididn't know what to do. I was trying to get back to work years ago, after a period of anxiety, agoraphobia, and I have now been working for over 30 years. I don't think they can put anything bad, as you did resign over ill health. Would you not try the disability website I'm sure they have one. I have been checked many times and never refused a job, just had to attend a medical which I passed. I think the truth in the end is the best. All the best0

..........

Unless you entered into a legally binding agreement with then (i.e a compromise agreement) they can say anything they like as long as it is true and not deliberately misleading.
It is a common myth that you cannot give a "bad" reference.
However, that said, many companies have internal rules restricting staff to giving the kind of reference your husband considers to be the norm. It is becoming more and more common but it is not universal or a legal restriction.0
