You need a jobbroker. Who they are depends on where you live but the Jobcentre will know and an Incapacity Benefit Adviser will be pleased to help you look for work. The job broker will be able to hand over hard cash to assist in the pursuit of work or when you have started (but probably not both). IBPA will also help with clothes, motivational and job specific training.

If all this is too much google a cv stencil if there isnt one on your PC ie works, word.

  • What about doing a part-time course or maybe some voluntary work? That would get you out of the house for a while & help you gain confidence & skills that you can transfer to a job later on. You should probably check with CAB or the benefits office about how many hours you can do.

    Good luck

I agree, get out there and do some volunteering. the great thing is you can pretty much do anything that you want, certainly learn the tools of the trade.

What sort of job do you want?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • Here is a great website if you do want to volunteer https://www.do-it.org.

    Good look

    Hi,

Well done on trying to get back into work. As you'll know, the government is targeting (and for the most part constructively) the "incapacitated" to get people back to work, and there have been big contracts on offer for the new programme. You should find that both the Jobcentre and local agencies (voluntary, charity, people like Shaw Trust etc) will be pretty well geared up and may be able to offer you supported work, tasters and preparatory courses. (I used to work for Agoriad in North Wales so I know this is so). Depending on your health condition, it might be better to try to get onto a Work Step programme - you'll get paid but the provider will support you and the employer and give you regular reviews. They'll also help you with CVs and interviews. See your Disability Employment Advisor at the Jobcentre.

As for DIY cv help, look for a template that provides a functional rather than a chronological cv - this will emphasise your skills rather than gaps in your work history. If you like, send me a PM and I'll try and help ok

    Good luck!

I agree with everything said so far. I think having been out of the job market for so long you need to break yourself in gently too. I think a skills based CV is an excellent idea but would suggest you do some free courses, given that you use a pc a CLAIT course will be easy for you.
You don't say whether you are in receipt of benefits but remember if you do go back to work you might be able to claim disabled tax credits if your earning potential is restricted due to ill health.Good luck to you and let us know how you get on
