Hi all,
Just needed a bit of a vent. After my last problem with my two managers fighting over who could have me work for them, they finally decided to sort out a start date. I'm currently on a wage of £15,219
All was well, I was verbally advised that my wage should be increasing after probation to £20,000.
Today I've been informed by the same manager that he made a mistake and it is now actually only going upto £16500.
As you can understand, I'm pretty gutted. I've worked for the company for a very long time on a measly wage for what I do and just feel very disheartened. I want the new job. Its working for a manager I like doing a role I enjoy, but I had so many plans outside of work in my head that I wanted to do with the 20,000. It means about £200 a month less than was originally planned.
I know I have no leg to stand on as I didn't have it in writing or anything like this and I'm not looking really looking for any specific advice, I am just gutted.
I'm in the process of completing an NVQ 3, so hopefully I'll be able to look at moving elsewhere for more pay at a later date. I just wish I wasn't in this predicament. I feel I've been robbed in some way.
I know I should be grateful that I even have a job in the current climate, but I do just feel so sad to be so let down.
Just needed to get it out!

Hope you feel better for that C, I can understand what you feel.
Did he give yu any reason as to how he made the mistake, can you put a grievance in higher up.
What did you say to him when he told you.
Keep your head down, get your qualification and move on and it will serve him right. Swine............make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Just a thought is your NVQ paid for by work?
If it is be careful because some companies will have a clause saying if you leave before x amount of time they can reclaim the costs from you.
As for the wages I would feel the sameFirst Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -
Thank you for your kind words.
No he just said he thought it was negotiable with HR and it wasn't.
I don't want to raise a grievance about him, he obviously made a mistake and did apologise very sincerely. In truth, I fully believe he attempted to put me on 20k but because it was such a large % increase they won't do it. Its just a rubbish thing to happen.
I said I was upset and agreed to take the role on for 20k and was very disappointed. I also made it clear that the 'scale' that suggests it will take me 5 YEARS of doing the same job I'm 'starting' to get to 20k can get lost, as if he thinks I'll be waiting around that long to get to that wage he'll be re-recruiting. To be honest, even he seemed really annoyed about it.
Its just so frustrating. Why do companies not favour staff that have been commited? 3 years I've worked here, we have had our staff team change over 7 times entirely and I am the only one who's stuck with them (more fool me!) and I guess I should of just gone elsewhere. Its just such a shame that I will now have a job I like just not the money to make my life outside of work better.
On top of all this, my new job will consist of a LOT of driving. I'm ok with this, or was, with the idea of getting a 20k a year pay it would make getting a better car more feasable. Now I'm expected to pay for the wear and tear of driving all over england for this company for the measly mileage they pay with no extra funds towards fixing the car.
I think I'll need to start looking elsewhere.0 -
Hiya - No, the NVQ is not paid for by work its a government scheme. Infact I was informed that the costs basically came out of all the tax/council tax I have paid in the past therefore would not be 'dipping into' any government funds as such. I'm very anti-funding for a lot of things so ensured it wasn't something that someone else out there would be paying for.0

Coin at least that's one good thing
My place I'm doing exams if I leave within 2 years of the date of qualifing I have to pay it all back about 3K
I really feel for you I know you should never rely on things but it's hard not too. When is your next review? Can't you build up evidence of how good you are at the job to take into with you to help prove your case for extra pay? Especially if you love the job it might be worth looking into
I wish you all the luck in the future xxFirst Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -
I'm due to be 'reviewed' again 5 months after my probabtion period where he said he will try his damn hardest to put me on the next scale up (£17,600) - basically this is how it will work:
£16800 starting
5 months later - £17,600
1 yr - 18,400
1 yr - 19,200
1 yr - 20,000
Unfortunately, it seems the company will only pay if you actually hand in your notice and actually plan to leave. its horrible0 -
To be honest, every company I've worked for is the same as this. You don't get rewarded for sticking around. The only time I've had big pay rises is when I've changed company. Except for once, but that was because everyone else in my team resigned within a week of each other (not because of me
) and I then said I wanted a pay rise.
When you stay with a company, doing the same job, you just get a small cost-of-living increase each year if you're lucky. My company hasn't done cost-of-living increases for five years now. It is rubbish that you're doing a new role and the increase is poor though.
If you can earn more working for a different company, don't hesitate to move. Companies will make you redundant in a heartbeat if they need to cut costs. Don't ever feel guilty about leaving a company - it will always survive without you.0 -
Thanks hun. Yeah I will Definately be looking at playing the 'game' so to speak and finding another job come next year. Then they can either match the pay or I'll leave.
I've always worked and employer have always done something like this to me. It's just do sad that if someone want to paid for what they are doing properly they have to be dis-loyal and leave and then come back. It is just horrid.
I'm actually considering training to work with animals instead. If I'm going to get a stingy wage I may aswell do something I really bloody love!!0 -
