  • Don't do it! NO school will take you on with a TA qualification gained online with no practical experience. Most look for reputable courses from universities/colleges where the academic is combined with practical work employed in a school.

There are also not enough jobs for the number of TAs currently available. It's very hard to TAs to find jobs at the moment.

as somebody who has worked in education for many years I can only echo the last poster.

Such a TA qualification online would absolutely worthless! TA would = TAKING AWAY your money.

I don't know your age but if you're young, e.g late teens and have got family to support you a good way to get into TA would work would be to work voluntarily as a "helper" at the school, 2 or 3 days a week at a school and develop a relationship with them. Then if you did a TA course you may be able to complete it whilst being in the enviable position of knowing they'd take you on at the end of it.

It's a long route, perhaps 2 schools years but that's life I guess. Another thing 2 consider is that so many schools take the !!!! these days and out TAs on pro-rata, meaning no pay for 13 odd weeks of the year, either that or they only use them part-time.

    Best of luck with it.

If you have young children maybe you could volunteer for 2 days per week in there school and sign up for a course in a local college. When I completed my CACHE Level 2 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, I did it through the college and was required to be working either voluntary or paid for atleast 2 days per week in a school setting. An assessor will come in to assess you in your work.

You can complete it in less than a year :)
