Wow....a week into August already:eek::eek::eek:
This week our meals in no particular order:
Toad In Hole, Mash, Carrots & Sweetcorn
Chicken, Roasts, Parsnips, HM Yorkies, Carrots and Peas
Spagbol (Double portion for freezer)
Chops, Mash, Carrots & Peas
Egg, Chips & Beans
Chilli Con Carne
OH has been following a wheat free diet for 2 months now and has trimmed down a stone and feels a lot better for it. He's now at a healthy weight and doesn't want to drop anymore. We're having to buy him all new 32-32" waists jeans, shorts and trousers etc and all his suits (some very expensive) hang on him:( Ive been ordering Mrs Crimbles free from bake well slices and macaroons which are 4 for £1.50 and high in calories which he now needs to maintain weight. Its amazing what foods have gluten, wheat and dairy. He has goats milk, butter and yogurt. Also got him some free from fish fingers (23p each which is quite good), free from burgers and the loaves of bread are £2 each and aren't too bad.
Any ideas for cheap filling recipes with no wheat, gluten or dairy?
Hope you all have a good week.

Just spotted your threadAll I can think of beyond gluten and filling carbs is potatoes and rice. I remember saying you have jacket pots anyway for your lunches often which means you don't have to rely on sarnies or gluten-free bread (which I heard, as well as expensive, is not that pleasant??) Rice salads. Breakies could be difficult and expensive for the gluten-free oats, and no being able to have most cereals or toast. How about rice pud or ground rice pud? I used to make ground rice for the kids when they were babies but would make enough for me too. Its lovely made with dairy free milk and you could sweeten with syrup or sugar. Might be cheaper than the gluten-free oats. Rice cakes with peanut butter and jam? I like that as a snack.
A lot of "Freefrom" foods sadly seem to be either dairy or gluten/wheat free. For dairy free you can replace milk in recipes with dairy free milks, which are pretty cheap (basic UHt ranges of soya milk are generally approx 59p per litre). Cakes made with ground almonds rather than flour? Though I suppose almonds are quite expensive, you could replace then with ground cashews.Love and compassion to all x0 -

Penny-Pincher, have you tried quinoa for your OH? Works well in place of couscous and is good hot or cold. Tuna and bean salad is also a good lunch dish and very easy if made with a tin of mixed beans.
I haven't done my meal plan yet, but will pop back when I have!:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0 -
