Yet another item on the shopping list has been moved from the ASDA list to the Tesco list.

This time, it's cooked meat, for my lunchtime sandwich.

ASDA. ASDA chargrilled chicken. 280g, 12 slices. £3.00.

Tesco. Tulip breaded or honey roast ham. 355g, 15 slices. £2.00.

PS. I've found that different Tesco branches stock different varieties of the ham, and none I've found to date stock both, but at least there is variety.

12 months ago, i was a die hard Asda shopper
i shop for the bulk of my shopping online
always cheaper for me from asda

slowly the gap was bridging between them
I realized each month, when delivery day came i began to dread my shopping being delivered
more substitutes, and even more "not in stock" items
on my sheet, those were equaling what i DID receive

    Tesco for me now
i lost the will to live with asda

I prefer my local ASDA to my local Tesco but now that I've gone organic there's so little I can buy it's not worth doing more than popping in occasionally for organic olive oil and Kallo organic stock cubes.

I don't like Tesco but the range of organic veg is much better than ASDA.

However I'm finding that Sainsbury's is the dark horse, giving Waitrose and Tesco a run for their money. Sainsbury's hand-cured organic bacon and organic rib eye steaks are amazing. I got a rib eye for 4.76 this week and after bashing it with tenderiser I could have fed two people and it was juicy and delicious.
  • Stephen Leek, your love of Tesco is quite staggering! ;) Not that I am particularly enamoured by either of the aforementioned stores, but you will find that Asda is cheaper across the board on about 90% of items than Tesco by some margin. The quality of products in both stores is very poor, however.

If you want decent products at low prices, try Aldi. If you want good quality at reasonable prices, try Sainsbury's. If you want good quality and are prepared to pay for it, try Waitrose or M&S.

    I much prefer Tescos.

Asda delivery orders were terrible and I got so fed up of stuff being missing that I've given up on them.

Not only that, popping into the Asda at Oldbury on my way home once and having the choice of ditching a full trolley or paying for carrier bags as I was passing through and had none. Why does this particular asda charge their customers when others don't?

Phht. I'l never go to that one again anyway!

And the freshly baked bagettes and rolls are only just cooked and taste doughy, they are horrible.

I did try sainsbobs and have no beef with them, I just prefer MrT.

You made created that choice yourself by not having reusable bags. There are plenty out there and it doesn't take much effort to make sure you always have a couple or more in the boot of your car, or if you are on foot have a few folded small in a pocket/bag.

I have noticed that Asda is getting very expensive. I often by grated mozzarella in bags...Tesco price £1.55, Asda price £2.00!

I don't love any particular supermarket. They have no loyalty to me and it seems only fair to reciprocate. I hate ASDA's yo-yo pricing and abysmal stock control. I hate Tesco's devious special offers. I only have an occupational pension, so price has to be my main criteria. I am lucky in having two ASDAs, a Sainsbury's and a Tesco Metro and Tesco Extra close to me. It's just that this particular item is much better VFM, and I noticed that my ASDA shopping list is getting shorter and my Tesco one is getting longer.

Normally I would have but I've just had a new car so it was all empty of my stuff (including my satnav sucker for the windscreen ggr) :)

It was more the principle really though, if some asda give bags why don't they, but I'm not fussed I won't be going in there again, there's a Tesco further up the A4123.
