Think of Lidl as a deli.. Krakowska sausage, chorizo, salami, Black Forest ham, Brie, Camembert, part-baked ciabatta, European biscuits, rooibos tea, Parmigiano reggiano (cheapest), naan, pitta, goat's cheese, prosciutto di Parma (cheapest), whole smoked mackerel, Boczek, dill pickles, antipasto, potato salad in creme fraiche, premium coleslaw, whole free range chickens, pickled morello cherries, passata, big Cornish pasties, Norwegian and Scottish smoked salmon, Scottish mussels, organic Heirloom tomatoes, frozen nasi goreng..then it's excellent. The veg is good too, the aubergines look beautiful.
However, if you're looking for cornflakes, baked beans and pasta shapes as a continental supermarket IMO it does these less well.
If you like foreign beers you'll find lots. The wine is pretty dire though.
Lidl does some really good offers on non food stuff anything from plants to camcorders.
If you want organic all you'll find is milk, tomatoes and carrots.
Cant agree on the wines - my husband loves his wine and will sometimes buy from tesco if they are on offer. Without fail he always comments that Lidls are better - guess its just a matter of taste! I now do all my shopping in Lidls with very few exceptions - tea, coffee, liver for the dog and fat free fromage fraisfor myself. I also like the "corner shop" friendliness of their staff - always willing to have a chat and help in any way they can.0 -
The Lidl fairtrade teabags are pretty good. The Granarom Gold instant coffee is pretty good. The also have deals for Nescafe Gold blend quite often. It is £3.50 for a 200gram jar from today
As for the wine, it is not always cheap and cheerful made up names, for average wines. The do some fairly decent French and Italian reds and whites, that are have won awards.
Also recommened is the Churchwards bottled cider, which I reckon when served on ice, is better than Magners. More refreshing.
As for pet food, I haven't tried that yet, but if someone put it inside some pastry, I would probably eat that too.The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
OP with Lidl its trial and error.
They have very few brands but mostly have their own brand equivalent. Its a case of trying them and seeing. I find that generally these match the leading brand.
Take Aldi's recent ad campaign (Very similar business to Lidl):
You get similar quality own brands at lidl.
I would urge you to go with an open mind though. The layout can be confusing at first, the names will be unfamiliar. Take your own bags and £1 for the trolley.Hi there! We’ve had to remove your signature. It was so good we removed it because we cannot think of one so good as you had and need to protect others from seeing such a great signature.0
