Working and singing on?

I was just wondering if anyone can help. I have a interview for a job that is only 10 hours a week. If I get the job can I still sign on, (but get less benefit obviously). I basically want to still get my NI credits (or whatever there called). I will continue looking for work as really I want 16-20 hours.

If you work less than 16 hours a week you may qualify for Income Support, so it's worth looking into that. You won't qualify for JSA if you are working.

You will be eligable for JSA working less than 16 hours a week, although you may not receive any money from them. Just NI stamps, also you will still probably get housing benefit and council tax benefit if you're getting them now, just in a reduced amount.

You will still have to sign on and your jsa will be adjusted taking whatever you earn off the jsa. You can still claim CT/HB benefits, but if you go over the 16 hours then you have to sign off.

Yet JSA and IS were scrapped for ESA so I'm not sure how much of this advice is of any use..

@spotty: In answer to your question in the subject, you can sing on a stage if you want to work and continue 'singing' ;)
