  • Hi golly, we are in the same boat as you we are with NWBS and are due for remortgage in May we are currently on Variable at the min but have being looking at this new deal too, ideally i would like to knock at least 1 year of the term.

Hi there, I don't know if it's because i'm a FTB? I obtained the original results using a comparison table.

I thought the rate might be because you are a FTB, but was under the impression all Nationwide mortgages were available to everyone? Maybe not?

Can recommend Nationwide though, they've been very good for the time we've been with them and very competitive with the majority of the market from what I've seen.
  • Just to update on my part in this thread, been to NW today to see what they would offer. We were paying £406 p/m with 21 years left on a variable at 5.49 at the min, we have now swapped onto 5.44 fixed for 5 years with no fee and we took 1 year off to leave us with 20 year mortgage it is now £416 p/m i think that is pretty good, we can still over pay by £500 p/m if we want to aswell.

    What do others think?

Nationwide were not able to offer as much as we first thought as they cannot take Tax credits into account as it could stop at any time (can't any type of 'state benefit' stop at anytime?) So they can only lend us a max of £159.950, but in a way, I guess it's a good thing, as no one wants to stretch over what they can afford, so the temptation is out of the way. We now have a AIP for the new figure.
