Sick leave, holiday and notice period

Hi there - just looking for some general advice if possible.

I'm currently working my notice period, with 1 week to go, then 4 weeks accrued holiday before my official last day at work.

However, the GP has just signed me off work for 3 weeks because of acute sciatica (I'm unable to sit, drive, etc without intense pain, despite taking very strong pain killers, which also make me woozey).

I'm really hoping that I'm going to be well enough to work when I start my new job.

I've been told that if you're ill when on holiday, you can get that holiday back (I know of people I currently work with who have done this) to use another time. In my case, would this be true? Would I be able to apply for the holiday time I would have taken to be paid instead?

I'm not trying to be money-grabbing, just trying to figure out what the position is.

TIA

Depends on what your company sickness pay policy is. Do you get time off on full pay for sickness? If this is the case then you should receive your 4 weeks' holiday pay in your last pay packet, as you won't take holiday for sickness (unless you want to of course). If you only qualify for SSP then it might be worth considering using your holiday instead of sick pay.
