Im 35 weeks pregnant and will be taking 3 weeks holiday from this friday and then maternity kicks in from 27 Aug with baby due 7 Sep. However like you I was finding it increasingly difficult motivating myself to stay at work for a number of reasons. Mainly issues with my boss messing me around with a bonus i was due, him faffing about leaving it to the last minute finding someone to take over from me etc. This meant i had to spend a week training a colleague up and then being told i would have to do it all again last week when they finally found someone else.

I think the exhaustion of overworking myself for the bonus and then not getting it, the training etc just got me so rundown i actually fell really ill and had to be signed off work since last tuesday and i wont be back. I would have liked to have stayed longer to have the extra money and extra maternity leave at the end but if you finding it hard to be at work and stressing yourself out in the process its really not worth it trying to stay longer. Trust me, being at home now and not having to spend 8 hours a day sat down in a stuffy office feeling uncomfortable is fantastic. Your health and the babys wellbeing
is far more important so do what you feel is best for you both.

    Good luck

Get signed off till maternity then you get the holiday back to use after the maternity period.

But just remember if you are signed off with a pregnancy related illness your Employer can automatically put you on SMP after 36 weeks of pregnancy.

35 weeks with first as had holidays to use. She arrived at 42 weeks :-0! Longest 7 weeks of my life!!! So bored?

37 weeks with second as I knew I was having a section at 39 weeks. Gave me just enough time to spend time with oldest kid and have a wee bit of chill out time before baby. Perfect :-)

I went on maternity leave 2 weeks before my due date. i was struggling at work towards the end, but I just kept telling myself that every extra week I lasted was an extra week at home with my baby before I had to eventually go back!! I know it's awful at the time as you are getting bigger and slower, and the added hassle from your employer doesn't help, but it will be so worth it when you get that extra time at home with baby.

    Good luck.

  • I finished work at seven months pregnant and work heaved the biggest sigh of relief ever. They'd never had a woman tipper driver before, let alone a pregnant one and i think they were scared to death in case anything went wrong.

Seven months along felt right to me, i was starting to struggle climbing up the tipper to sheet loads up, and feeling tired.

I've just started my mat leave this week at 37 weeks. Well, technically, I'm on annual leave this week, so mat leave starts next week. I probably would have worked another week, but I left a week early because of the non event that has been the Olympics (I work in Central London!!) - as I've heard that London is like a Ghost Town.

With DS, I started at 38 weeks, but I must say, I did struggle with the last week.

I finished at 36 weeks with first one, had an elective c-section at 38. I have a four hour round commute, so this time finishing at 33 weeks and taking a week's leave before mat leave begins. M/W thinks I am a week further on than due date and baby has had her head down since 20 weeks, so not anticipating having to wait the full six weeks for her to arrive. I have got lots to get ready in that time anyway, and will be off for a full year following the birth.
I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off :o
