Employer Advertising your Job

Hi

Just a query, am quite annoyed to find that my employer is advertising my job, the position I am currently working in. I have had no warning or any hint of this and wonder where do I stand legally or what should I do?

Any help or advice appreciated :)

A couple of questions come to mind first. How long have you been employed there? Are you sure this is your position and that they aren't just creating another role identical to yours?
Data protection is there for you, not for companies to hide behind

I wouldn't panic... If you are the only person doing a job which is critical to the company's functions/business, it is always safe to hire an additional person just in case of some unplanned events happening with you.
Also, this increases productivity in management terms. Thats normal.

What a nice employer, recognising you are so busy they are seeking an extra pair of hands!

I was once in that position, and confronted my boss (copying his boss into the email).

Once we'd got through the (fairly awkward for me) "so, how come you were looking at recruitment adverts" stage of the discussion, we established that the advert had been run in error by someone in HR who had forgotten to amend the details to those of the correct vacancy. Allegedly. I never did trust that particular boss............

Now if you was in HR you could have changed the phone number for a laugh, and put in hundreds of applications of your own, just like the Mrs Doubtfire film. That would be fun.
Wanted a job, now have one.

Depends, what did they say when you asked them?
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
