Getting Credit after Bankruptcy

My partner was made bankrupt in Jan 2007 - and discharged soon after. He has a Vanquis credit card which he has handled well and now his available credit is up to £3000. Is he likely to be successful in obtaining credit elsewhere at this stage, for example, DFS? Does anyone have experience or know for sure? In desperate need to update our furniture and do not want to set our hearts on something and then be refused credit. Yes, I know we should save up but this would take years.

I have a bed on credit with Creations from Dreams. It was on credit for 2 years, paid up in December 2012 and I have never missed a payment on this account. However, I have recently been unemployed for six and a half months and although now back in work I have late and missed payments on several accounts, which unfortunately were unavoidable. Desperately trying to get up to date at the moment, and I reckon I will acheive this by next month, but cannot undo the last few months. I am I in a better position or is my partner? Help?

Unfortunately it is hard to give a definite yes or no in these situation. We have found that what one or several people are successful in getting another person isn't. The only way you will know for sure is to try.

Have you checked your local papers for people selling their furniture on? Have you checked your local Freecycle or Freegle group? Do you have an adverts paper like Trade It in your area. You don't need to get new.

Also make sure he cleans up his credit files as per the sticky, that should help him increase his chances.
