in Cutting tax
Hi all
I currently work in the NHS and pay all my tax through PAYE.
I will be mentoring a student this year who is doing a postgraduate diploma and I have had a letter from the university stating that I will be paid £200 for this.
Obviously I should (and will) declare this to HMRC.
However, does anybody know if I will have to go through the effort of filling in a self assessment form for this one payment I will I just be able to get an adjustment to my tax code?
Thanks

Just write to HMRC and they'll very likely just adjust your tax code.0 -
Filling in SA online when your tax affairs are very straightforward is little more effort than writing to HMRC, and cheaper as you don't have to pay for paper, envelope and a stamp.0

Actually, you may find the University lops 20% off your supervision payment: I've done a couple of odd sessions as a 'patient' for medical exams, and been sent a proper payslip with 20% taken off.Signature removed for peace of mind0
