Leek United Mortgages

We have been reccomended a mortgage with Leek United - the rate looks good etc. However I feel slightly nervous going with an organisation I have never heard of before... does anyone have any views on Leek United... their website looks good... initial customer service has been excellent so far... established since 1863 so not new to the market... any thoughts gratefully recieved

If it were me I'd be over the moon as no English Building Society has ever gone bust (Banks have) and also this is your opportunity to get away from the big banks we say we hate now.

Building Societies tend to offer decent long term rates.
They are a form of co - op like John Lewis. This is the sort of business structure that politicians now term ethical capitalism.

There's a cohgent argument we should all be using these co - ops in order to change the wat Britian does business and treats employees.
  • .... and you are worried about what ?

You'll have their money - and they haven't even checked your website or customer service !

    Dunfermline springs to mind.

Chelsea was forced to merge as well.

Obtain a copy of their annual accounts will provide a degree of reassurance.
  • Use only if you want to jump through more hoops than you can imagine to satisfy their conditional mortgage offers

    Hi,
Did you get your mortgage within Leek United at the end? Or has anybody gone for them? Will be going through decision in principles with them next week for my first mortgage- got to wait over a week for phone appointment! Suspiciously low rate, but they look ok.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I got a (re)mortgage with Leek United about 13 years ago. I'd just gone self-employed and was having trouble finding a lender because of that. I'm about to remortgage with them again, hopefully.

    Where are you based?

I'm from Staffordshire and have heard of Leek United, probably because I've heard of Leek the town.

I also looked at them them for my mortgage but found (for mine anyway) the low rate was there to lure you in, and there was a nasty fee to pay after the fixed term had finished.
