Please send a CV/Written application

Now, I can understand that companies don't even have the decency to respond to applications (online) and CVs sent in place of an application, but what the hell is going on when companies expect you to write a cover letter and don't even have the decency to acknowledge an application? In fact, the ones who ask for cover letters are the worst. Never bother at all.

Is it even worth bothering with a cover letter? Should we just send a CV to these jokers who ask for a cover letter.

If I'm replying to an add posted by a predatory job agency then very often I will skip the cover letter, to speak in plain English, most of the time they won't give a toss and will just make judgements solely on what's in your CV.

If I'm emailing the actual company who are advertising then I always add a covering letter. You can't judge every company by the standards of others, you're cutting your nose off to spite your face if you do!

With most firms I hear nowt, that is very true, but some people bother to get back to you. A written letter announcing you've been unsuccessful is the Holy Grail of job rejections and I appreciate them! LOL

I know it's a lot nicer if you receive an acknowledgment of your application but you have to look at things from the company's point of view. In the current climate when a job is advertised the company advertising are getting hundreds and hundreds of replies, chances are they just don't have the time to reply to that many people.

If they ask for a CV/Cover letter and you only send a CV, you're really not doing yourself any favours simply because they won't reply to you and chances are they won't even consider you.

If you want to save time when it comes to writing a letter you could write a basic template and adjust it for each application.

I send cover letters all the time as 99% of jobs I apply for say that you have to send one and I'd be lucky if I get anywhere near 2% of those replied to. It's the way it goes.

I gave up expecting any kind of reply a long time ago, its not so much the CV and covering letters jobs that get me down as I can write a covering letter quickly with the person specification to hand but the 8 or 10 page ( or more) handwritten application forms that want to know everything and anything including what you would do in different scenarios and then never even giving a cursory thanks but no thanks email that get my goat.

Fortunately I haven't had to do any handwritten (!!) application forms.

Then you're lucky, I receive at least one every two weeks to fill in if not more.

I guess I'm just lucky that I'm not applying for jobs that use such archaic methods.
