Critters!

Options
Hi guys!
I'm hoping to tap into your wealth of experience once more if you don't mind please?
The whole of the British biology seems to be represented in my house in spring/summer/autumn.

I've got bees and wasps hovering around my front door, ants coming through the back and spiders wherever they want.
As I'm allergic to the bee/wasp sting, does anyone know of any kind of deterrant for them please?
If you can advise about the other critters too, I'd be most grateful. Many thanks.
Much Love,
Tiff xxx

Ant powder work well usually use it in doorways etc, wherever they come in, we had to as had hundreds in the fireplace of this house when we moved in. Spiders keep down the amount of flies, the more flies you have the more spiders you will get, they won't stay where there is no food for very long. I remember hearing that about hops too, I am also allergic to wasps stings which can be a nightmare as I am petrified that the kids have got my allergy and scared they will be bitten, what about citronella, that is mean't to work well?

We got so many wasps one year that my granddaighter just point blank refused to go out of the back door. I filled a large bowl with water, put some honey in it and a few drops of washing up liquid. Put it about 10 yards away from the back door and the next day it was absolutely full of wasps. The honey attracts them and the washing up liquid breaks the surface tension of the water and they get so wet that they can't get out again and drown. Plus, when wasps are dieing they send out some sort of signal that attracts other wasps.
I refreshed the water every day for about a week and - no more wasps. To be honest, I wouldn't have done it if we had bees because I don't mind bees at all, but I suppose it would work for them as well if you can bear to kill bees.

We discovered that a band of creosote (although its illegal to buy and sell now) painted on the bottom bricks all the way round the house keeps all sorts of beasties out. You can buy really good wasp traps from lakeland but Jayars tip sounds great too
