Not sure if i'm being picky or not...

Hello!
Newbie poster here, long time lurker! I'm looking for some advice from you lovely MSE-ers! I recently purchased a skirt on ebay for 99p, the postage was £3, i thought great yep no problem.. paid straight away for it. Just received the skirt in the post today and i am appalled at the packaging!!! The woman has literally just used one bit of brown paper to scrunch around it and i've noticed it only cost her £1.10 to post. Normally i'd be fine with this but because of how badly it was packaged i'm not sure why she's charged nearly £3! Paying £3 for something so light would for me mean she will be packaging it properly and securely in a jiffy bag or mailing bag and not just screwed it up! Unsure as to wether i should send her a message or not, do you think i'm just being picky?

Thanks
xxx

No, I don't think you are being picky. Things like this do annoy buyers, however much some people find it illogical, so you are just reacting like anyone else tends to do.

Mark stars to whatever you think she deserves. For items like this, where although it's over double the cost it's still a fairly low value, I don't give out lows. If I was charged £5 but the item cost only £2.50 to post (and packaging was the same as it was with you), that might be different.

Give her a 3. That will have an impact without being life-threatening.

How does contacting the seller constitute hassle? It's less buttons to press than low DSRs and could be a genuine mistake.

There was one occasion where I left a 4 without contacting the seller, in just this sort of situation. Is that OK with you? They had a message on their listings in big letters saying 'Please don't mark us down' - but in reality they didn't seem to be doing anything else to make sure their prices were in line with what it cost (it was coming from Jersey so I gave them the benefit of the doubt when buying, but the price was clearly displayed on the envelope, there wasn't much room for manoeuvre or anything they could really do to make things more palatable).

I don't need to quibble every price of everything I buy, but I do want to be charged reasonable prices and not to have to pester for refunds of a couple of quid. It's about getting it reasonably right first time, and refunding excess at the point of postage, not about arguing over something not worth my effort. I don't live on eBay, I've got better things to do.

If sellers don't want to be marked down, then they should charge reasonably for postage.

As you (normally) point out, we can all make mistakes. There is a recent thread on here on how to refund.....so don't assume you are being reasonable and the seller not.

Not sure how you 'pester' without sending a single email?

Did you get out of the wrong side of your moral bed this morning?

Clothes can often be borderline on postage, sometimes they fall into the large letter size, other times they are packages, and there's a large difference in how much RM charge.
So it could have been the seller being cautious.

It's a bit picky for such a small amount, but if you're really upset about the loss, contact the seller first, then leave feedback accordingly afterwards.

It was 99p and you knew how much the postage was before you bought it. It was delivered safely and needs an iron, big deal, thank her with positive feedback and move on. How can you let a 99p skirt ruin your day.

Yes, i knew how much the postage was before i bought it. But for £3 i'd expect it to arrive in decent packaging and not screwed up with a bit of brown paper around it. I did not say anywhere within my post that it 'ruined my day'.

Thank you to those who replied with helpful advice :) i shall be contacting the seller before leaving feedback to give her a chance to rectify the situation.
