still cant afford bankruptcy

Spoke to several people and was eventually advised by CAB last October to save for bankruptcy. Easier said than done though as it is a joint application. We are still some way off.

It would seem that all our debt has now been passed to collection agencies and we are being threatened with house calls. Can they really do that? I live in Northern Ireland in a rented house and my wife is afraid to answer the door now while i am at work.

Have u stopped paying bill/direct debits to get the money for the bankruptcy, obviously not rent/mortgage, council tax or gas/electric, but any other debts you may have?

I think i read somewhere, that bailiffs dont cover N.I.
you could check with your local CAB thou.

I was told it is empty threats and despite constantly being told I would get house calls and the baillifs had been notified no one ever came. Baillifs apparently are mainly to do with unpaid council tax or parking fines, so are used by statatury agencies such as the council. Hence rent and council tax are really important bills to keep up to date with.

dont know if its the same in ni but i had a visit from a dca,so although rare they do do it. but looking back i have to say he didnt make much effort.
at the time it was awful but when i said i was calling the police he left. actually not making much effort at all

Thanks guys, i did get almost half way there but had to use that money to buy a car (£550) as my old one was beyond repair. But with the kids needing uniforms and what not now for the new school year approaching i have got off to a slow start again. It is a nightmare which would just be compounded by someone coming to my door while im at work as my wife is petrifried. We did stop paying debts to raise the cash but had to pay off rent arrears first and foresmost which we have nearly done. All my debts now seem to be with collection agencies so i didnt know what to think or what to expect.
