It doesn't say water, it says electric.0 -
The dilemma as posted on the email says:
Our water recently got cut off because my housemates hadn't paid their share...
but the dilemma as posted on the forum says:
Our electric recently got cut off because my housemates hadn't paid their share...
Hmmm, that really is a dilemma.0 -
Why does it say "water" on the MMD on the email and yet on this page it says it was the "electricity"?0

It sounds like you all need to have a house meeting to sort out who pays for what, and how it will be done. What will be done if one person can't or won't pay, etc. How will the others support one who has lost their job? If you haven't already done so, put together an agreement which you all sign
Then have regular meetings to talk about how things are going in the house . (If any housemates are casual about it, tell them the meeting will go ahead even if they aren't there.)0 -
Well Mse Debs,
Do you live in london ? Paying alot of money to live in a house share with lots of other PROFESSIONALS who cant afford a place of there own.
Welcome to LONDON and the cost of renting in the big smoke!!
Now you did not mention students or water in your post or HMO for that matter so people need to read your post.
Time to look at renting a place of your own or maybe ask Martin for a payrise to get out of house sharing ( not very MSE ? )
You must be very carefull not to damage your credit score because someone else cant pay there fair share.
Sorting the bills in a houseshare can be a total nightmare so stop getting walked over and ask for your money back from the person/people who did not pay. GOOD LUCK0 -

Somebody should learn that it's not a good idea to mix water and electricity0 -

See: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/moneytaxandbenefits/managingdebt/debtsandarrears/dg_10025592Regardless of if this is a real dilemma, the principle is real and someone may be helped. Or maybe the water cut off rules are different in other countries.0 -

Therefore if the water company did that for real, then you'd need to get the £36 reconnect fee back as the water company has broken the law. Am sure that there is something from the government on this somewhere.
If you read OP it was electricity that got cut off, not water0
