I know its early but family (hubby and 11 year old girl) looking for something different for this Christmas! Over indulged last Christmas as hubby was away Christmas before (work). Decided we are not doing that again and are looking for ideas for this year.

Looking for something in Scotland but open to all ideas! Been looking for cottages but just dont know. Also been looking at volunteer work...visions of daughter serving out Christmas dinner to someone else will do her good!

Any ideas welcome. Thankyou.
;)Water!

    Loch Insh?

You can stay in a log cabin or the lodge... Christmas in a log cabin sounds pretty special to me and round those parts you might even be lucky enough to get snow!!

You could also look at hotels in Edinburgh or perhaps cottages on the outskirts? Edinburgh at Christmas is always bustling with people doing last minute shopping and Princes Street Gardens gets an ice rink and little stalls with mulled wine and chestnuts which always adds to the festive atmosphere.

There are plenty of homeless charities in Edinburgh that would probably welcome some help on Christmas Day when it comes to dishing out Christmas lunch and there's plenty to do for the rest of your trip.

I can highly recommend "ENTERKIN Cottage " ,
    Kirkcudbrightshire,
    DG6 4TP
    Scotland http://www.cottageguide.co.uk/enterkincottage/

We've had many wonderful holidays there over the past 5 yrs , it's incredibly picturesque and peaceful in the middle of rolling countryside although its only a 10min drive to the local Artist's town of Kirkcudbright which was home to Scottish artist E A Hornel, one of the ‘Glasgow Boys’ , in fact you can vist Broughton House & Garden his home which is now administered by the National Trust . I have not stayed over at Christmas as we always have a large traditional family gathering at that time but I did read other guest remarks in the Log Book who had stayed over the Christmas period and as ever they said what a special place it is and how helpful and welcome the owners " Diane and Des " had made them . If we had the choice to spend Christmas elsewhere I would certainly choose "ENTERKIN COTTAGE" , as it is we always go home reluctantly but also looking forward to our next visit .
