Impatient - Please talk sense to me!!

I need you lovely people to talk some sense into me. We are almost debt free (1 card remaining on 0% interest until next summer paying off monthly) and we are now looking to do some home improvements.
The home improvements are not urgently required (knocking 2 rooms in to 1) and I have worked out if we are strict we can have the money saved up for it by the end of Feb. I know that's not that far away but i'm so impatient!! I'm really worried that if the saved money is in the bank there is always the temptation to use it if something comes up and then our target of Feb will be put back.
It frustrates me because I think other people would just get a loan to do it but after getting ourselves nearly debt free this feels like a step backwards. I did look at a loan earlier and they offered us one with 22% APR (total interest £550ish) and part of me wants to go for it but then part of me thinks it's wrong to!!
Ahh why can't I just be patient!!

Thanks 2cats_on_a_couch, I think i'm just frustrated as we're finally so much better off than we've ever been but it's still not enough to do what we want (ok knocking throught isn't a cheap thing I get that). I guess i've just got to be more positive about it and keep on saving.0

Februarys not too far away (not that i'm wishing my life away lol). 0 -
Not sure that I have too much time on my hands with 3 little people running around, but have definitely focussed on this as being a major importance when perhaps like you say it isn't. I think after being so careful with money and not being able to do anything it kind of scares me to have any money and now we do have a bit I just don't want to waste it and only use it for things we really need.
Like I said before i'm just really impatient!0 -
Thank you our little chat has made me feel a lot more positive about it and good luck with your DF journey, sounds like you're on the right track and well on your way :T0

missyb - look at it this way...no matter how impatient you are, the last thing you want is to start a DIY project in the months leading up to the holiday season. Extra pressure to be done before the holidays, household affected by the mess of the DIY project...
January is always such a letdown after Christmas, but you will have a ready-made "pick-me-up" as you'll have that DIY to look forward to getting on with.
Best of luck with it, and well done on getting close to debt free!MSE mum of DS(7), and DS(4) (and 2 adult DCs as well!)DFW Long haul supporters No 210:snow_grin Christmas 2013 is coming soon!!! :xmastree:0 -
Congratulations on almost clearing your debt - you must feel absolutely fantastic.
We're trying an old fashioned pproach to money at the moment - ie before the days of easy to arrange loans you had to save up to get money together. Maybe you could try that and see how you feel about it? Although you say that you might use the money for something else and then it will push you're planned renovation date back, but think of that money as a safety net - if something went wrong and you needed that cash for something else, at least you won't owe it to someone else.
Good luck!!0 -
Thanks Guys, am in a more positive mind over if today.
Triggles so true it will be something to look forward to in the new year and I really can't be bothered to start doing it now if the sun decides to come out again, far better things to spend my time on.
hoglet121 I really do want to try and save for it, the feeling at the end will be far better than if I get a loan and once it's finshed i'm still paying for it for ages. I've made myself a spreadsheet to tick off add to every month so hopefully that should keep me driven.0
