Not looking for advice as such, just something I want to discuss and get off my chest.
Ok, Ive been on income support for almost a year now. Ive been getting depressed being at home all the time but cant get a full time job due to looking after my daughter(Ive worked since the age of 15 and only gave it up for to care for my daughter after splitting from her father).
I decided I would try for a weekend job, my daughter is with her dad so I don't have to worry about childcare and it gets me out the house.
Well yay me Ive got myself a weekend job :j, Its only 8 hours a week but its a start and theres a possibility I could increase my hours after my 3 month probation is up.
I thought this would be great and I had a meeting at the job centre to discuss returning to paid work.
I thought the fact I had got myself a job would be a good thing but as soon as I mentioned how many hours I would be doing the person I was seeing at the job centre said I should consider rejecting the job unless its over 16 hours.
How does this advice make any sense?, I know how my earnings will affect my benefits and that I will stay on income support unless I work over 16 hours a week but surely me taking this job is the better option all round.
It will possibly help me find it easier to return to full time work eventually and come off of benefits and also its less money Im claiming off the government.

Call me cynical, but you don't count for the purposes of DWP targets if you have a job of less than 16 hours, which may be why your advisor is suggesting you turn it down.
If you are sure that you are not going to be worse off, and you know you will feel better, then go ahead with it and keep looking for more hours.
Well done you
