Hi all, just wondered if anyone could help me, I want to close my main HSBC current account but am having problems. This is my my main bank account which I use for all my bills. I have decided to change to RBS as I am getting charged on average £25 per month for unpaid direct debits as I am experienceing fianancial difficulty. This month I am being charged a £60 and have just had enough. I have opened a new account at RBS, and want to repay money I owe HSBC in monthly installments but having phoned the customer services team they have refused to do so. Totally sick of HSBC they dont seem to care at all.
Any ideas would be greatly recived

Have they actually recalled your overdraft at HSBC?
If not then can you not just set up a standing order and cut up your cards?
Or is it that you asked them if they will freeze charges and they won't?
You could consider writing to them to ask to pay in fixed installments and close the account and freeze charges/interest - but usually if they do that it does result in a default on your credit report.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
hi there thanks for your replies, I have no authorized overdraft with HSBC as they wont allow me to have one, as last year I finished a overdraft reduction, I had an £800 overdraft which is now cleared but I cant have another overdraft for at least 1 year. I could apply for one after the 4th of September.
I am currently in a debt management plan with think banking, but after this week will cancel all direct debits and take it from there, might pop into branch and explain see where that gets me. Opened a new account at RBS who dont seem like a bunch of TW***0 -

Are you paying Think Banking for your DMP? I know they charge for current account so assume their other services aren't free.
If so, please consider using a free service like CCCS or Paypal for your debt management as this will free up money to go towards your debts.LBM 10/1/12 ~ DFW Start 6/2/12: £82,344 ~ Now Zero:staradmin:starmod::staradmin Debt free 17th April 2015 :staradmin:starmod::staradmin

been into branch who said no formal arrangement could be made but as long as I make payments into the account that will stop the bank sending letters and debt collectors. Agreed to this and once the full balance is repayed then I will close the account.0

HSBC are terrible, they sent me a letter asking me to re pay the balance, so contacted them and was told that the branch did not give me the correct information. Explained the who situation (again) to the collections team and asked to set up a payment plan of £10 pm and was told that unless the account was back in credit in 80 days they would be contacting a debt collections agency and put a default on my credit file. Explained that at the end of the day £60 is not much and at that rate the debt would be cleared in 6 months and that there would be more people who have a much larger debt with them and dont pay a thing. Not sure what to do now0
