Bit of an odd one...left eye watering!

It's only a little niggle in the grand scheme of things, but it's quite puzzling: whenever I put make up on (eyeshadow + mascara), my left eye starts to sting and water. Only the left eye, the right one doesn't do it. I'm not doing anything different on the left, so I really don't understand what's happening. It's quite annoying, as it makes my mascara run, and the watering blurs my vision - plus, the stinging is a pain in the rear. It stops after about an hour and everything is fine then. Does anyone else have this problem?

:rotfl: Oh goodie...Well, I always kind of knew I was a freak of nature! I'll just sit in the corner and weep (out of one eye)...:p0

I get this happening a lot too! I've no idea why or what causes it or how to stop it. I just assume that its some sort of broken eye vessel as the fluid is only going to come from me/my eye vessels- its not as if its sweating!
I find they go after anything from a few days to a few weeks. Try not to use a heavy bag on that shoulder or carry a heavy bag on that side (however don't over-weight the other side or you could risk the same problem on the other side..etc etc). Also, sneezing, blowing your nose, even staring with your eyes transfixed and open at the same time all are things I think could make things worse.
I've sometimes- not every time but sometimes, had things improve when I've taken hay fever pills though there are two different types, you need to try find out which type works for you and you can only do that by taking them for a few days by which time they may have already gone if you'd not taken them at all!0 -
I get this sometimes too I'm as much in the dark about it as everyone else but what does really help is a hayfever tablet (as above) loratadine and viscotears dry eye gel (available otc from the pharmacy) morning and night. All power is from within and therefore under our control0

This happens to me too but in my right eye. I'm left handed- are you right handed? I think it might be just because you're applying make-up to your 'opposite' eye...Sealed Pot Challenge 8 2015 #487

I'm right-handed, yes. Mmmh...It seems I need to try some hayfever tablets then, see if that works.0

happens to me too, had an eye infection a few months back and my left eye has never been right since! If it was just make-up I'd understand (I'm a cack-handed right-hander) but even putting eye cream on starts the waterworks in that eye

I have blocked tear ducts which means my tears don't drain away like most people, so my eyes do stream when they get watery!
You can be allergic to mascara so it could be that (odd it's only one eye though) - have you tried different ones?* Rainbow baby boy born 9th August 2016 *

Hi! Yes, I have quite a selection of mascaras and it happens with all of them, only in the left eye. I thought about allergies...but only on one side? It's the weirdest thing.0

I know exactly what causes the problem and how to stop it happening.0
