She told me herself that it was guaranteed for 1pm, I'd never have assumed that with normal post times!

    Special delivery IS tracked.

You get the 9am service ( and 9am saturday) or
Special delivery next day ( and Next day saturday) 99% of UK by 1pm. Both provide tracking number. And they are not just for busines sellers.

She would not be able to send the ring just signed for ( NO tracking number) if it is worth more than 46 pounds, and/or is jewelry, money, etc.

( I have the post office services and prices leaflet here...heehee)

So chances are she just did not send it when she said she did, unless she lied about the contents and send just signed for and has no tracking numnber.

You do get a number with signed for, it's not a tracking number per se, but it does tell you when an item has been delivered and you can see the signature that signed for it online.

But I agree, she probably sent it by special delivery but too late for delivery today and it's coming tomorrow.

I've just noticed that you're in Aberdeen!! It's not guaranteed by 1pm up there. I think it's 5.30pm.

    you have misunderstood
RM offer a specific service called "Tracked"
they are not one and the same
"signed for" would be recorded I assume? This carries a tracking number too

Panic over! My billing address is different to my delivery address as not got round to changing my PayPal account. The seller sent it to my old house, they contacted my mum who is picking it up and bringing it to me at the weekend when they visit!

Well, last time i sent something that i wanted tracked i was told it is called special delivery and you get a number to track online AND it is insured for £500

Recorded Signed For(TM) only gives proof of delivery, and if the parcel goes missing there is no insurance or way to tell where it went missing... so this is the reason why all the valuebles are only sent with Special Deliry (TM) :)

I am not aware of any other services by Royal mail... nothing that just says 'Tracked'.

because you are a retail customer
Tracked isnt(yet) available at the Post Office.
No need to lists RMs services for me,I know them well
recorded delivery carries the same compensation levels as standard mail. £46 at this point
