Council Tax Help.

Hi everybody,

I missed a council tax payment and so I am now paying my council tax to a collections agency.

However, I am a single person and should be paying at a discounted price.
Could I claim back overpayments from the collection agency who are working on behalf of the council?

    No, you would have to apply to the council, they are the ones who will apply the discount. Ask them about backdating, not sure how long you can backdate for though.

    The council will inform the bailiff company of any reduction to your balance and therefore an arrangement will finish sooner than it would have.
    I work in Council Tax recovery, any views are purely my own based on the information supplied.

    Hopefully if it is only one month missed it may well wipe the debt out, but of course there will be fees to pay too.
