E-On checking credit report - more than once!

Morning all,
Looking for MORE advice
I have just moved into rented property (private landlord) and was looking to switch my energy supplier. I completed a comparison table online (not 100% sure which website) about a week and a half ago. Chose E-On (as they were the cheapest) but failed the credit check so they offered me a pre payment meter - this was back end of last week. I decided to go with the second cheapest supplier and am in the process of switching to them (NPower).
However, yesterday I got another phone call from E-On saying that they had received another enquiry (all the same details but done on Tuesday) and had performed another check and it was declined again - how they thought it would change in a week is beyond me but hey ho!
I explained that I didn't fill in the enquiry on Tuesday - I was off work and don't have internet access at home! He said well you must have a virus!! Our work computers are protected to no end and I explained this to him. He then said "well you must have completed it". I know I didn't - even on another day - I have chosen my energy supplier, no need to look again!
Now I checked my credit file and they have done 4 credit checks on me - I know my file is shot to bits anyway but this is annoying me more out of principle.
Any advice on what I can do?
