There is certainly a case to be made for ceasing all such subsidies - especially where the object is to create 'art' for a cultural 'elite'.

True. At least the Olympic Games are probably supported by about half the population.
No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.

Estimations are about a billion people watched the opening. The other 6 billion were to busy trying to make end meat.

After the games and everyone goes home, get ready for things to go down hill. Rents and property prices will fall from their inflated levels they are at now.

You hope I couldn't afford live in London in the seventies and I don't think the Olympics have made much difference so when they end not much will change.

After the Games London will continue to be an iconic world city and a massive pull for tourists.

Lets face it, most people who are interested in this have massive lcd tvs. Which will give a million times better view of the action in the comfort of your own home.

Out of all the people I know, I only know only one person who is going, and she is a complete numpty.

No cost, no security searches, no travelling, no crowds, wear what you like, drink what you like, no rain.

This is why we are seeing lots of empty seats, as even people who have tickets cant be bothered to go.

I'm slightly negative towards the Olympics, but now it's here I am going to enjoy watching a few events.

What isn't so enjoyable is some of the BBC's presentation of the event.

    1. Most of the presenters seem to be on "Olympic Happy Tablets".

    2. Sian Williams. Who's bright idea was it to bring her back to do the early morning presenting ? She is just annoying, and seems to think she is on CBBC, not BBC1.

    3. This morning I was told by Sian and Chris Hollins "just behind us you can see the Olympic Stadium" (or words to that effect). Not only have I heard this several times already, I think I know an Olympic Stadium when I see one, without their help.

Well, ignoring G4S, Jeremy Hunt's bell end issues, Korean flag problems and a slow start in the GB Team's quest for medals, I think it's going OK so far.

You do know that just repeating some half witted baseless nonsense of a prediction over and over again doesn't make it more likely to happen, don't you?

Enjoyed woman’s road race today, know that part of Surrey very well and I thought it looked good on TV better than it actually is in some places. Crowds pretty impressive to.

Thought that was a pretty impressive advert for the south east of England and London for the closing stretch (I have to begrudgingly admit that as a Northerner living in Scotland!).
