hiya, so i had a message from capquest this morning. im unable to talk to people on the phone so they left a message and reference number with my mother who took the message.
they claim to have sent me 9 letters but ive not received anything? i did move house 4 or 5 years ago so maybe they are sending them to the wrong address?
as far as im aware i have no debts anymore, earlier in the year i had the Mackenzie Hall Group after my money and i paid the balance and have the letter to prove that.
is this likely to be a scam or a real debt ive forgotten about?
ive also read somewhere that if your claiming benefits you dont have to pay debts back? is this true or not?
thank you.

It might be a fishing scam, trying to find someone with a name similar to yours who is willing to pay up. It might be a debt you have forgotten about.
Tell them (or have your mum tell them) that no letters have been received, and if they don't know your address then it can't be you they are looking for. Tell them that further calls to that number will be considered harassment and reported. They can write with details of everything, including evidence of why they think it has anything to do with you, or go away.
It's not true that you don't have to pay things back if you are on benefits, but on a reduced income you can often get the creditors to agree to reduced payments, sometimes to freeze the interest too. You still have to repay though, just within your means - £1 a month in some cases. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....
