shift cover

Hi i constantly cover my colleagues shift when she is off on a Saturday and end up finishing late because my manager wont do it on a weekend, however this time i said no and he got really angry and started saying everyone was going to be allocated shifts to cover equally can he do this i am contracted hours and work for a large company.

  • Surely if everyone is allocated to cover shifts equally that works in your favour, as it won't always be you that ends up doing it?

People like that take you for granted if you keep covering for them. You can just work your hours and refuse to cover for anyone. ^_^

I said no because it was my daughters birthday and i wanted to do my normal shift 8.30 - 5.30 instead of covering till 7pm i normally agree to keep the peace :) Thank you for the advice

    Basically

    a) they can change your shift to include a 7pm if the business dicatates
    b) this could be considered unreasonable.

Would they do ^^^ to you think?

So she always ask you to cover for her and you still work every hour of your own shifts? You should make her swap hours with you.

Where I work, the norm is if you need time off, you'd ask a colleague to cover for you, and in exchange you swap hours with them for the same week. Makes it fairer for everyone.
