Advice Re: CRA Please.

Hi all,

I have started using Credit Expert by Experian, to find that I have 3 defaults against me from a company named Lowell Portfolio Ltd. These defaults are said to have taken place around December 2006 (for two), and February 2007 for the other. All labelled "Communications".

I was wondering if it was worth me writing to Lowell Portfolio to see if they could be chalked off of my record since I have no recollection of these debts. Or how to best proceed? The debt currently stands at over £1500 even though the original debts would have been around £500, which is something I am not willing to pay.

Any and all advice would be gratefully received.

Thank you :)

did you have mobile debts ?
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • Not as far as I know / remember, I found a letter on here that someone sent to Lowell and they then cleared the debts due to it being over 6 years. Should I just wait for mine to "fall off" (which would be in December this year), or should I contact them and offer to pay it off minimally since it will be removed from my credit report in 6 months anyway?

Sorry for all the questions, I just don't know the way to handle this since I haven't had to deal with it before - hence why im here. ;)

If you have no rcollection of the debt, how do you knowit was around £500?
  • It states the original debt on Credit Expert for each default.

You may find that Lowells will write to you now you have checked Experian, as they could now have your current address due to that.

If these are not your debts then you can.

    (a) Take the fight to Lowells and demand that they are removed. Could be quick, but could also be a lot of hassle and argument.

    (b) Just wait and see what happens, as you know they will be removed later this year and early next from your credit report anyway. Obviously you would have the defaults there in the meantime.

  • Thank you, I think I will get a letter typed up and posted to them tomorrow.

Lastly, if I decided to offer an agreement to pay on the debt would that look better on my credit portfolio than letting it fall off?

Why would you pay debts that you (a) don't recall and (b) won't be on your credit report much longer, regardless of whether you pay them or not?

Will make no difference at all. Once they are gone they are gone.

  • Just purely to get them gone in all honesty, but I see what you are saying.

Thank you for answering my questions, sorry if they have been nonsense.

    No. Don't worry. Not nonsense.

Just didn't quite see where you were coming from for a minute.

As said, you may be getting letters from Lowells soon if the credit check has given them an address.

If you do, you may have to rethink your approach. Depending on what they say.
