Does anyone else do this

I have a close friend at work who is getting slightly obsessed with credit reports and agreements,
All she speaks about all day is paying off debt and upping credit limits.
She has applied for everything really, (like myself has 4 credit cards and some catalogue accounts)
the only card she doesn't have is a Barclaycard but applies for this maybe twice a month.
I dont understand why she does because she keeps getting declined.
She has applied recently for all the newer aqua cards and capital one cards, and Flybe and Sygma, and all the time logs in to credit expert to check her credit reports. She can't seem to help herself applying for things.
I doubt anyone else would admit to it but does anyone else keep applying for things.
I don't really know what she's doing but seems to get a thrill on being accepted, (I guess that accounts for all the catalogues, she loves to see the limit offered).
Although its not all bad, she's not in a lot of debt, I have seen her credit report

Sounds like she is a bit mental. If she keeps applying for stuff and getting declined I'm surprised her credit rating isnt 't through the floor.
So person in sound mind does this surely?0 -
hahaha I don't think she's not of sound mind, but she kind of says she just likes to see if they'll accept her or not.
I just wondered if this is something only she does
THing is she says she has a default going to fall off so i said if she laid off applying for things then her rating will get better but surely its going to be marred by the searches
how many is bad??0 -
2 can be bad!0

Paying off debts and (or to?) upping credit limits? I get talked about for my obsession with making and saving money - at least my madness leaves me better off!:)0

Great that she keeps such a close eye on her credit reports and is conscious of paying debt off, but reapplying for credit and getting repeatedly declined is a pretty poor decision to repeatedly make I'd say.On the up

I'm often tempted to apply, to try and get all my cards onto 0% for example, but don't actually do it because I'm aware it damages your credit rating!
What I don't know though is, does applying for your credit file yourself affect your rating?Getting there........

The declinations show on her credit file. If she keeps getting declined, it will lead to more declinations and that will damage it.
Tell your friend that the applications do not improve her file. Lots of applications, particularly refused ones, will damage it. If she wants to improve her file then stop applying, close down her unused credit facilities, and use one or two cards sensibly (one for groceries, one for petrol or something) and pay them off in full each month.
Showing she can manage her credit will improve her file. Not lots of applications. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....
