I am going to attempt to make my own curtains but would like to start on fairly inexpensive curtain material. I've been down to Fabric Warehouse, Mandors and one on Seafield Road but they all seem to be terribly expensive (cheapest around £5 a metre). Anyone suggest anything cheaper, thanks.

Ikea? I bought material for bedroom curtains from there.
I do miss The Cloth Shop, now the fabric warehouse which is nothing like it used to be since being bought over by a big company!:j0 -
Thanks, tried Ikea last weekend but nothing I fancied. Agree that the "New" Cloth Shop isn't very good.0

Depends what you're after - I used to work in remnant kings at seafield and would agree it's pricey - but I have found that dunelm mill,, out at straiton, is about 30-50% cheaper ( for identical fabrics)0

Fancy a day out to Dundee? We used to live in a 10 bedroomed house, and we got all of our material from Halley Stevenson in Dundee, they supply Laura Ashley and places like that, some of the most amazing material is £5 a metre, and they have also have big bins of odd material, some of which is big enough to make curtains for small rooms.
Doesn't the Barras have material places? In fact does the Barras still exist, it must be 20 years since I was last there!0 -
Rejects in Kirkcaldy always have a huge selection of material, I am sure I have seen stuff there at less than your target price although it has been a while since my last visit.
Rejects is a large store with all sorts in various departments, it is difficult to leave without finding something to buy.0 -
There's a big fabric place just off Aitkenhead road (Texcraft, next to the postal depot), its not actually open to the public but to trade. Ask them for a tour and they normally let you buy stuff during your visit to encourage you to sign up for an account with them. Their stuff is so cheap. I got a lot of fabric for my house (curtains, duvet covers etc) out of there.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. My sister needed masses of fabric to curtain the double height windows (20ft) in her barn conversion. Dust sheets, plus lining...fabulous effect.Mortgage Free in Three cheerleader0
