Well I did know some bloke who hung himself in the Garage because he couldn't keep up his mortgage repayments and was about to lose his house. I guess he'd have been happier renting?

If he couldn't afford to pay his mortgage, I doubt he could have afforded to pay rent, rent in the main, being more expensive than payments on a mortgage.

Might have got some housing benefit to cushion the fall.

Correlation and causation are different things, most journalists, and indeed most people, seem unable to realise that, generally using a 'where there's smoke there's fire' argument.

Thank you Gen. I do try to get this simple idea into the heads of the kids I teach, but it isn't always easy.

Had to sit through a training session a while ago, in which somebody seemed to think that a correlation between depression and heavy internet use proved that internet use was a bad thing. At the very end of the talk there was one very tiny throwaway comment that it wasn't possible to be sure of the causal relationship. No mention of withdrawal from FTF contact as a common symptom of depression, no actual exploration of the idea that depressed people might be drawn to heavier internet use than non-depressed people, nothing. :wall:
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

High rents cause unhappiness. Just yesterday I spotted a flat for sale that was just £80k and it comes with a tenant on the remainder of a 12 month AST ... paying £700/month. That's bl00dy outrageous.

That's why I'll be buying. I can buy something I can't afford to rent. The rent on what I buy could be £1200/month to rent. Bl00dy ridiculous it is.

Shadow Cabinet Office minister Michael Dugher said: "This is a statement of the bleeding obvious, a waste of taxpayers' money and it makes ministers look even more out of touch.

Quelle surprize, another nulabor MP trotting out the "out of touch" line. Do you think they realise how blatantly obvious it is to the thinking percentage of the population that they are all on orders to trot out that line no matter what the situation? And that none of them is enough their own person to actually refuse?

Talking of out of touch, I wonder how Gordon Brown is these days. He seems to spend 100% of his time having a nap in his constituency, never ever venturing down south to, um, earn his massive MPs salary by actually turning up in the house of commons. He does find the time to come down if he can have the spotlight to slag off his former good friends at News International though, so that's nice for him. We should all apply for his job, I'd be prepared to go the extra nine yards & actually turn up as many as 4-5 times a year for his money.

And then post all over the internet about how house prices are too high.... ;)

What's the psycological reason for posting all over the internet (literally!!) that banks are not providing enough mortgages?

OK, so we now have the results of the survey. Usually when a survey is carried out it has a purpose. what will now happen as a result of these findings?

Will clowns be sent to blackpool? or will people over 85% be taxed more to bring them inline?

Ok - this looks like the thread to discuss GNH (gross national happiness). Lots of people bang out about how infinite is obviously impossible on a finite planet whilst others complain about how overcrowded the UK is and how we would be better with fewer people.

So the Govt is trying to start a debate on whether we should just be targeting GDP or whether there might be more to life after all...and gets roundly slated.

So what do the Mass-Debaters on here think - is their a role for the govt in thinking about whether GDP (and income distribution if you are of the Milliband persuasion) are the only important factors a govt should concern itself with or whether there are other ways to make the population happy.

I propose free distribution of unlimited supplies of heroin...it may not be a long time but it will certainly be a good time....
    I think....

A national holiday to be declared every time the sun's actually out. There is a country somewhere in the world that actually do this....
