Freezing Yorkshires and beef together???

Options
Hi there- am hoping someone can reply to this fairly quickly!!

I have made my first ever HM batch of Yorkshire puddings- so easy I can't believe I haven't been doing this for years!

However there are only two of us and I have made a whole tray full! (And I'm not really into the jam/syrup thing).

We also have a fair bit of leftover beef- do you think it is possible to freeze the Yorkshires and beef together like those beef stew ready meal things you buy or will it ruin the Yorkshires?

Also, how would I heat it up??

Thx!!

IMO it will ruin the Yorkshires if frozen together. (they would go soggy) You can slice the beef, separate into portions and double wrap it in plastic freezer bags (prevents freezer burn) Then you can defrost as required. Or you can freeze the beef in gravy in the small plastic freezer containers, like you get at the chinese takeaway. You can then defrost and reheat in the microwave. (although i do this and defrost in the microwave and reheat all at once)
The yorkies are best put in the oven from frozen and reheated for about 5 mins to crisp them up.

Hope this helps, but in the July grocery challenge there is advice from others of how they do it.

    I'd freeze them separately.
The yorkshires will only take a couple of minutes from frozen in a hot oven (and I think its 30-40 seconds in a microwave).
The beef will take longer either way. I tend to freeze the beef in gravy, which helps keep it from drying out. You could either defrost it in the fridge or microwave and reheat in pan, oven or microwave. Microwave will be the quickest and timings will depend on your microwave, I'd test after 2 mins (from thawed) stir the gravy and probably give it another two minutes.

definately separately. you can reheat the yorkies by popping them in a hot oven for a few minutes - but the frozen beef (especially if its in gravy) will need different treatment. besides which, as others have said putting the gravy in the yorkies will make them soggy before you can freeze them.
  • Thanks everyone- have stored it all in separate bags in the freezer ready for a yummy quick dinner one night.

I used the 'fill the ramekin with equal measures' method of making the Yorkshires and they were enormous!
