Very quick HSBC question

Options
Remortgaged with HSBC - apparantly this is completed because my halifax doesn't show a mortgage balance and they have sent a letter.

However, no DD has been set up yet, they indicate 1st payment on 1st of month, no valuation and bizarely it appears no credit checks.

I don't have telephone access via HSBC (not yet set up) and so would need to go into branch to do this and they won't asnwer my question over the phone.

So question is am I to assume that the 1st payment will be 1st September and will be for more than the month?

Also when will they do the valuation or do I assume they are not bothering with one.

I’m currently re-mortgaging with the HSBC as well from Halifax, although a bit off as my fix doesn’t end for a couple of months or so. However based on the fact that your Halifax balance is now nil, I’d assume that HSBC are fine and have re-mortgaged you, they probably did an on-line search valuation but you should have been told this. They did a search on mine and then straight away confirmed that they’d have to do a visit valuation, so you should know by now if they wanted to do that.

I presume you had solicitor contact to handle the re-mortgage for you? They should have sent you a questionnaire to fill out and on that you should have been asked what payment day is best for the mortgage. Did this happen?

The best thing to do is call HSBC, you can talk to them as they run some security questions past you regardless of having the security set up or not. They will actually ask if you want it set up, so give them a call and make sure you know the answers otherwise you’ll have to go into the branch!

Can I ask you a quick question re Halifax, was the redemption figure you had close or near as what the balance was on your mortgage or did they add anything? I've not been able to get the info from them yet as min is far away, so just estimating at present using calculators!

Thanks for the reply. I have received very little information from HSBC which is the frustrating thing. Their solicitors advised of estimated completion date and redemption which was pretty much what was on the Halifax banking screen - I didn't ask for a redemption though. Given I have received no letters can't confirm but when solicitor rang it was a pound or so different to my online banking screen.

I asked for the 1st of month for dd and this is showing in my current account but with a zero amount still.

I don't like keeping large funds in the current account and so if not out till September I can move over to savings, guess I'll have to wait until 1st of aug to see what is happening.

How did u get them to talk to u on phone? They refuse to talk to me until I go into a branch with Id and set up phone banking. Very frustrating with lack of letters and inability to contact via phone.

You will be aware HSBC were in the news last week for not following money laundering and identity checking procedures. As such by asking you to prove your ID in person, they are merely following Governmental rules.

People complain when banks inadvertently release thier personal info to a third party, so of course they are simply trying to avoid this happening to you.

Personally I'd be glad they were acting in this prudent manner.

But they have copies of my passort etc (all the documentation for the mortage and the solicitor were given in branch and they took photocopies).

but .. I didn't set up phone banking at the same time so have to retake it in.
