Etiquette: Gifts Received Before the Wedding

A quick etiquette question for you all...

Our wedding is not for another 8 weeks but my Aunt has sent us a fairly sizeable cheque to put towards our honeymoon which we have received today.

Do I send a thank you card/note now? As part of our wedding package from our photographer we get a number of personalised thank you cards with an image of our day, which I think my aunt would really like, however obviously I can't send that until after the wedding! Should I send a little note now and then a proper card afterwards? That's my inclination but just wanted to get others' thoughts.

Thanks in advance

We verbally said thank you for the contribution and then sent a proper thank you card after the wedding as we weren't just thanking them for the contribution but also for all their support for the past 13 years and their role in our big day :)

I would definitely send a thank you now as it's quite a while till the wedding . After the wedding the official thank you card would be a lovely touch.

We sent an informal thank you (email / txt etc), but will send out proper cards after.

I'm glad you asked this Roz as we are starting to get cards in from people who were invited but can't come & I was wondering if we should acknowlege now or wait until we get back & do them all together with photos.

  • I would send an informal thank you card/note now and then send the personalised cards after the wedding, thanking her for coming to the day and also saying something like 'Thank you again for your very generous gift' and what if anything you might/have put it towards, eg if it paid for your flights or an upgrade on your accommodation.

Exactly, I didn't want to seem ungrateful and ignore them until after the wedding, but I really wanted to send out the personalised ones! Two cards it is :D
