Tax Help Needed

This is a long story so I'll try to keep it short, but with full details.
I was offered a job 3 weeks ago, the guy told me that I would work full time as a temp for one month - with a possibility of continuing as a permanent employee if things worked out. The only catch (for me) was that he would pay me £250 cash in hand. He told me that I might even be able to do the job from home.. Which is why I wanted it in the first place! I broke my ankles last Sept and have to keep them raised to reduce pain & swelling.. He is aware of this.
I worried over this for a weekend & went to see him the Monday I started and requested he put me on a zero hour contract instead. That way my tax & NI is all sorted. He made fun of me. I decided that I could perhaps register as self employed. The job is an employed job.. But what could I do?
3 weeks later & the guy has fired me (Loooooong story, he was drunk when he called me & was texting abuse at me until around 8:30am when I'm guessing he fell asleep? He's on holiday in America so he'd been drinking for hours before calling me. He also called the office & told his sales staff that they'd both be fired too if sales didn't pick up!). The firing has nothing to do with the job, or the work I was doing (which was damn good work!). I don't really want to go into specifics because it's not really related to the problem at hand.. No matter how much it !!!!es me off!!
Anyway, so I've earned under £1000 in the last 3 weeks & I'm out of a job, so there's really no point me registering as self employed. I know I don't need to pay tax or NI on it because it's under the threshold & I'm going to Uni in Sept, so I'm unlikely to get another job this tax year anyway. Still, I'd like to keep things above board.. What do I do? Surely I don't need to register as self employed for those 3 weeks? Can I just do a random tax return at the end of the financial year or something?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi there
You're right, you do need to declare it, even though you're under the threshold. However, I *believe* that if it's a one off you can declare it using a specific form rather than a full tax return or registering as self employed.
Unfortunately I don't know which form, but I'm sure someone else on here will.
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -

Thanks Kiki
Do you know whether this form can be filled in whenever during the financial year, or does it have to be done after April 5 2013? (Like a normal tax return)?
If anyone has any more info or advice on this, I'd greatly appreciate it
