I suspect the operative word in ruthless letter is "may"? Owing money may lead to all sorts of things, if the creditor takes you to court and succeeds.
If this debt is statute barred, then the only defence you need if they try to take you to court is that the debt is SB. The judge would fry them for supper.
You may want to double check your letter with National debt line? On the phone they can give clearer advice than we can.
Do also check your credit record - when was the last payment on this account? More than 6 years ago?
is there a CCJ against this account?If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I have one CCJ on another debt which i am currenlty paying off but i have no CCJ regarding this debt on any of the three main credit refence agencies.I have never made a payment to them for about 10 years the last payment was by DD via my bank.I did however call my bank and they said they could dig out my old statements if ever i needed them for a fee of course. They did check back up to 6 years and said nothing was ever paid to the bank that lent me the loan. Cabot had sent me several letters regarding payment and if there was anything they would have mentioned this i expect in there letters the same with Ruthbridge unless i am mistaken.I hear Ruthbridge do buy status barred debts then try and scare people to cough up even when they dont this was information i found out on here again unless someone tells me different.Again Ruthbridge want to make me bankrupt that was there last letter and offered me a 50 per cent discount if i paid up your thoughts please.?
Thanks0 -
