I was thinking about upgrading my lens in my current frames and wanted to try an online retailer. Is there any discount online service out there for selling and fixing new lenes in old frames. Or could i buy the lens online and get them fitted on the highstreet. I really like my frames and dont want to change
thanks

I have not yet used the service but from their catalogue information you can send in your existing frame for them to quote you for lens replacement. The telephone customer service person was very helpful.

i recently paid £70 to have my lenses swapped out at specsavers (with anti glare & scratch resist)
expensive I know, but i really like my ££ designer frames and couldn't stand to lose my favourite glasses
Maybe false economy becuase you can get lookalikes online for so much less, but otherwise my frames would have been no use..... (had to have no prescription for driving)
Have paid this £70 and will get some prescrption sunglasses online for £20 or so....
So really £90 and I'm done for two years and kept my frames...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I have used http://www.spex4less.com/ to reglaze my glasses. I have to have the thinner lenses as my prescription is too thick for wire frames and I think it was £55. They were quick, efficient and I was really pleased with the service and the lenses.0

Hi,
I am a Optician with my own practice. I had one of my patients come to see me, having had their glasses reglazed at less than half the cost, than we would have charged. I was ready to advise the patient about the pitfalls of doing such a thing, but after inspection (I hate to admit it) found the workmanship to be excellent, the p.d was correct and the prescription was spot on. As a consequence the patient was having no problems at all!
After much research it transpires that the company that made them (https://www.ciliaryblue.com) also provide similar glazing services to my own practice (and others) albeit for emergencies only. Hence the quality of the work.
There is room for companies like these that can work and run along side the High Street Optcians.
But do make sure the p.d (pupillary distance) is used correctly as it can have an impact on the quality and comfort visually for the wearer.
I hope this is of some use?
{I have used this paragraph before, but if you have to have your glasses reglazed on-line, at least use a company that we, at my Opticians use, and trust. If they are good enough for us, they will be good enough for you.}:rotfl:0 -
Something else to bear in mind is that plastic frames are difficult to reglaze. With metal frames, you can pop the lenses out no bother, but because you have to heat up the plastic frames to get the lenses out, there's an element of risk.0
