Wickes Kitchens

Options
Went into Wickes today looking at Kitchen units - asked for a price list to study at home - told we don't have one you have to decide what you want come in and ask us the cost of each unit or use our fitting service. So they basically want you to be caught up in the sales pitch.

I hate salesmen - I know what I want and just want to be able to sit down and compare prices. I don't want to have the embarrasment of finding in the shop that we couldn't afford something.

Before someone tells me; yes I know that there is a basic take it with you range.

Either this is new Wickes policy generally or your particular store works differently to the rest.

My kitchen was from Wickes and I had several brochures and pricelists at home.

Can you try a different branch?

just contacted them on their contact us page.

The guy in store said that it was a change in policy this month ....

I was astonished - they seem to want to hide the prices - must be way too overpriced if they can do that. Or they want to convince you that a larder unit (5 pieces of pastic coated chipboard and some shelves ) is worth £1500....

The salesman said that there were 700+ prices so they couldn't keep an up to date a price list as they were always changing !!!

They seem to have missed the point that they have to be able to look the prices up to tell me what they are - I have worked in IT for years - either access via the internet is required here or for the sales man to have access to a printer and print an up to date list for you.

I will never go into Wickes again. I felt really humiliated. :(

I can understand you feeling annoyed but why humiliated?

You wanted a pricelist, they said no. Why is that humiliating?

Ok bad choice of words I meant going into the shop and finding the cost of a unit we wanted was unaffordable would be humiliating. Also I felt that the salesman - 'put me down' though to be fair he was defending an indefensible position. It seems to be a tatic to get you to buy more than you can afford.

Since looked on the internet myself and discovered that they do have prices for some of their 'made to order' range on the internet.

I suppose it's the overpricing of this stuff that gets my goat the real price for a basic larder unit in the made to order range is £1100. Nobody can tell me that this is justified for 8 or so pieces of plastic covered chipboard and mdf that takes minutes to put together.

;) The cost of 10 would buy you a good small car. Or is the cost of a range cooker ;)

end of rant Wickes can charge what they like - but why is there always a 50% off sale for Kitchen units?????

    Oh I understand now. :)

As for the unit cost. The stated unit cost is usually never what you would pay, they always discount. By how much is the question.

I did notice when I picked up a brochure about 3 weeks ago that there wasn't a price list in sight.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
