...created another bank account for me called 'Barclays Offer Account' and sent me a cheque book and debit card for this account? I already have a Barclays Current Account and a Barclays Savings Account and don't need another.

Obviously, I've been given a mortage offer from them, but I don't see the point in this.

It must become the "mortgage current account" if you take the mortgage offer.

I have one of these and also did not want one or their cheque books or cards. However its just to allow you to "borrow back" any mortgage payments you have made if you want to. It kind of acts like a very poor offset account. Its best not to use it unless you need some "cheap" money as you basically borrow it back at some kind of svr and not your mortgage rate which may well be better.

I have just put their cheque book and cards away and dont use it. Its not really a big deal.
One very small bonus is that the "mortgage current account" is viewable online. So whilst it doesnt exactly show you your mortgage balance, i think you can work it out.

original borrowing- any capital payments = mortgae current account balance.

Thanks for that. I'm tempted to throw the card and cheque book away then. I wonder if you can close the account. I can't see me ever using it.
