Hi all

I have tried a few times to get a UK mortgage to buy a place in UK while I am based overseas, so I and the family can move into it as a home on our return - it is proving rather troublesome. Brokers have told me that as I am serviing overseas UK Banks (except one though the rates are ridiculous) do not recognise me as a 'UK resident' and thus will only allow me to apply through the international arms of the Banks at obvioulsy higher rates - (even though; BFPO addresses are technically a UK address, I have had a UK bank account for the past gazilion years, my wage goes into it and I pay UK taxes and oh I am in a job that is not always based in the UK), even worse my wife is classed as a non-dom which impedes us even more. My current conclusion is that the sytem is: madness/ bonkers/ ridiculous!

However, I am hoping I am a living a rather short nightmare and my saviour with some advice is on here. I hope at best the whole saga is down to those Brokers/ Agents for the banks not understanding the HM Forces position.

Anyone out there who can advise and/ or provide details of a broker(s)/ bank(s) 'who gets the H M forces and our unique situations' and can thus help me progess to get a UK mortgage would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks, PMs also welcome

I forget their name but there is a mortgage firm who specialise in mortgage for HM forces staff. I think Holly on here does a few mortgage for the armed forces too so she may be a good bet.

The used to be a mortgage broker on jhq (monchengladbach germany) nigel garside was his name we used him he did it all we just signed on the dotted line ...... we ended up with the halifax who do special deals for hm forces serving abroad not sure if he is still there but well worth looking into. He can still do it if you are elsewhere in the world it can all be sorted by post.
