Alliance & Leicester underwriting .... waiting ... waiting

Hello,

Having read about 1000 mortgage rejection stories I thought I'd brave it & see what some of you more experienced people think. Applied to A&L for mortgage last Thursday (12th) over the phone. Passed their affordability (they said we could go 30k higher):
Joint income - currently 80k, will be 75k in September
Deposit- 68k
Porting current mortgage (with A&L) - £123k & adding new mortgage - £ 129k.
We will (hopefully) be paying £320k for the property; we need to move due to partner's new job. We have also accepted an offer (FTB) on our flat.
Told A&L about partner's new job - plus the fact that he will be earning a bit less (largely due to loss of London weighting) & and the fact that his contract is temporary for the 1st yr in the first place. He is a teacher. I am the bigger wage earner & am on permanent contract. A&L seemed ok about it, though initially the lady I spoke to went off to check - came back & said it was fine.
Emailed scanned payslips as requested on Fri 13th, with letter confirming details of partner's new job (they didn't want bank statements).
Was emailed on Monday & told it had gone to underwriter. I was
told this usually takes 72 hours.
Nothing since. I emailed on Thursday evening to try & find out what was happening, but no response.

Obviously we are now panicking. Presumably they would bother to tell us if they have rejected it? I last checked my Experian report about 6 weeks ago - all fine & a v high score, though I take it that doesn't necessarily mean anything. My partner hasn't checked his
but is always very well behaved with money.

He has £500 on his credit card.
I pay £339 a month on a personal loan, which expires in just under 3 years. No credit cards. We have never been late with our mortgage payments.

Argh! What do you think is going on?!!!
Thanks for your help...

Santander are falling apart in my opinion, 72 hours is an estimated time to get things done, I wouldnt bother trying to hold them to it.

I would try to relax and enjoy the sun this weekend. give them a nudge about Wednesday. Also try and get a single contact in the organisation so you can chase them each time.

    There you go then!

Problem sorted, dont worry about their published timescales, they will process your case in their own good time. Its frustrating, but thats the way it is right now

    Enjoy the sun
