Wouldn't the mortgage co's be thinking of money laundering schemes when you can't prove where the money has come from?

A professional would mean to have an even spread of income coming from the bets. So if you can prove through your bank statement your annual income from the betting process, I guess you should be fine.

Since betting is tax free, no need to worry about the taxation issues.

in this area (Surrey) a decent family house is £600-£700k
Don't know where abouts in Surrey you are, OP, but in RBK you can get a decent family house for half that.
Not much saving to do and you'd be able to pay cash.
